Impressive Sound Quality

The first thing audiophiles consider when buying a new vacuum tube stereo receiver is the unit’s sound quality and how it compares to other products of the same cost. Luckily, the Pyle Tube PVTA20 Stereo Receiver doesn’t disappoint.

Like many others, I was doubtful at first. How could such a little 600-watt tube amplifier make a difference in the sound of my speakers? After reading through hundreds of raving reviews, I simply couldn’t leave it alone. For under $100, it’s certainly worth a shot.

The first thought that came to mind when I had the PVTA20 all set up is whoa, this tube amp doesn’t joke around!

Immediately, I noticed a significant change in my speakers’ sound quality, turning it full, rich, and slightly warm and sweet–almost like what a high-end traditional tube amplifier would sound like. It has a forgiving treble that’s ever so slightly rolled-off, an awesome midrange with mostly positive effects, and decent bass. ‘Impressive’ doesn’t even cover it!

The PVTA20 packs a powerful punch right from the get-go. One user puts it perfectly: this little guy goes hard!

Apart from its brilliant sound quality and hassle-free setup, this tube amp comes with a BT Wireless streaming ability, CD/DVD inputs, and pure copper terminal outputs. It works with all of today’s latest devices, including smartphones, laptops, PCs, tablets, and more.

Admittedly, the PVTA20 doesn’t play at stadium levels, nor does it compare to high-end tube amps like the BoyuuRange A50 or the Willsenton R8. Even so, it performs more than adequately for the price it comes with. It’s loud enough for your home and the occasional holiday party.

Controls? You Want It, You Got It

The PVTA20 has three modes of input: auxiliary, MP3, and microphone. It’s also designed with two speaker outputs that can connect to two different sets of speakers and a 40+ feet Bluetooth range.

The auxiliary option supports CD/DVD players, tuners, streamers, and other line-level analog sources that can be connected with a 3.5mm input jack.

The front panel control sports a treble and bass knob with a full 12-decibel range and, of course, a volume function.

Unfortunately, the PVTA20 doesn’t come with remote volume control, a built-in USB DAC, or a headphone jack. If any of these features are important to you, you might want to search for another amp receiver.

Pros

The PVTA20 is small but powerful; don’t let its appearance fool you! It holds itself quite well for a 600-watt Bluetooth amp for under $100 and would impress even the pickiest audiophile. The sound it produces is clean, solid, and rich. The bass and tremble options aren’t too bad, either.

In terms of build quality, the PVTA20 scores top marks. Made with a double-sided fiber circuit board, full aluminum construction, and pure copper terminal outputs, this tube amp will surely last years before any replacement is required. The one-year warranty is merely icing on the cake.

The PVTA20 looks quite nice. Compact and stylish, it’ll fit right at home when placed in between high-end equipment.

Cons

The PVTA20 doesn’t come with many cons. The most prevalent complaint amongst users is the fact that it requires a set of 2MM mini Banana speaker jacks instead of RCA to power the audio output.

If you already have one lying around, you’re in luck. Others, however, are a bit peeved that they’d have to go out and buy a separate jack just to use the audio output. Worst of all, the manufacturers don’t immediately indicate that a Banana plug is required to use one of the unit’s many features.

Another disadvantage is that the unit automatically switches to Bluetooth mode when it turns off and on, forcing users to unplug and set up the auxiliary cord every time the machine is turned on.

What Customer Reviews Say

The PVTA20 has an impressive 4.4-star rating on Amazon, with 65% rating it as 5 stars and only 3% with 1 star.

Like myself, users who had purchased the PVTA20 are blown away by its fantastic sound quality. Reviewers are more than satisfied with the product, stating that it’s worth more than its listed price.

It’s fairly loud, as well, which is a surprise since the PVTA20 is relatively small. Best of all, no distortion!

Ease of installation and setup is another commonly talked about theme amongst reviewers. No effort whatsoever is required; simply plug the recommended cords, connect your speakers/turntable, adjust the knobs, and you’re all set!

Conclusion

The PVTA20 Pyle Tube Stereo Receiver is a great beginner vacuum amp receiver for tube-curious individuals and up-and-coming audiophiles.

Apart from its impressive harmonic distortions and classically warm tube sound productions, the PVTA20 is among the best value budget-entry stereo receivers on the market today. It looks quite elegant, too! I highly recommend the PVTA20 to beginners and intermediate users alike.
